AUCTION #1
The former Conrad Windisch House is located on the North side of Port Union Rd. between by-pass 4 & Seward Rd.

Built in the 1880’s, the home has a rich history. Conrad Windisch was a partner of Christian Moerline from 1854-1866 in the famous Cincinnati Brewery. However in 1966 Conrad Windisch leaves the Moerline Brewery to start the Windisch Muhlhauser Lion Brewery which would later become the Burger Brewery Company, following Prohibition.

Conrad Windisch built this home North of Cincinnati for several reasons. First it allowed for the planting of barley for the brewery. Secondly, it provided a place to bring the horses to rest after pulling the brewery wagons up and down the Cincinnati hills. And finally, the North side of Cincinnati provided an area for large country homes to be built so families could escape the hot, humid summers.

This was not the sort of home that a typical farmer of the 1880’s would build. There is countless feet of highly detailed woodwork, massive 12’ ceilings, numerous 10’ walnut doors, 50+ windows and 7 original fireplaces. No this was not a typical farmer’s home but rather a home built for a highly successful businessman of the 1800’s.

As one looks at the house after 123 years, yes there is work and maintenance to do. However, the foundation and walls appear sound. Can you imagine what this house could once again look like under the careful eye of a master craftsman?
